Accessibility in Yyteri

Access to the beach
The Yyteri tourist area is largely made up of sand and dunes, which means that accessibility is limited. You can find a map of Yyteri here. We recommend the following route to the beach:
Yyteri Square parking area (Kortejärventie 1)
There are three designated spots for accessible parking in front of the Yyteri Visitor Centre. They are in the row of parking places that is closest to the Yyteri Square roundabout as you enter the parking area.

A paved service road leads to the start of the main gangway to the beach. The length of the ascent from the parking area to the top of the first dune is 65 metres. The gradient of the ascent varies between 15% and 20%. The main gangway was converted into a footbridge in 2019–2020, making it less steep and more accessible. The total distance from the parking area to the beach is 345 metres, consisting of a paved ascent of 65 metres, a flat paved section of 30 metres and 250 metres of wooden ramped gangways. At the start of the gangway, a distance of 40 metres is ramped with a gradient of 9.0–10.5%. The ascent to the next dune is 29 metres long with a gradient of 6.0–7.5%. At the end of the gangway, there is a wider area from where you can continue along a narrower passage to the accessible toilet on the beach, which also serves as a changing room. The gangway does not reach the edge of the water.

Yyteri Hotel & Spa and Surfcenter Yyteri (Sipintie 1)
There are accessible parking spaces in front of Yyteri Hotel & Spa. From the street level of the hotel, you can pass through the reception area to take a lift to the second floor and, from there, you can go through the restaurant to find an accessible exit to the beach (Note: The hotel is temporarily closed, until further notice, from 2 March 2025 onwards). The service road that starts at the right side of the hotel leads all the way to the front of Surfcenter Yyteri. From there, you can find an accessible paved route to the beach and beach restaurant Helmi.

Accessibility on hiking trails
Some of Yyteri’s hiking trails are easy to traverse, although they do not fully meet all accessibility criteria. The Huikee trail from the Yyteri Square parking area to Adventure Park Huikee and Yyteri Beach Holiday Resort is mainly a flat wide gravel path that includes a wide bridge structure over a bog. The section of the trail from Surfcenter Yyteri to the northern tip of the beach, known as Golfpolku, runs along a wide wooden gangway. Golfpolku features a partial sea view and there are parking spaces for persons with reduced mobility at both ends of the gangway section. The wooden gangway is approximately 840 metres long, and there are three rest spots along it. The Herrainpäivät gangway at the northern end of the beach is also easy to traverse. Of the nature towers in Yyteri, the Langoura viewing platform, located in the Bothnian Sea National Park, is accessible and features an accessible dry toilet nearby.
Yyteri Visitor Centre
At the Yyteri Visitor Centre, you can borrow a Hippocampe all-terrain wheelchair during the opening hours of tourist information services. The maximum duration of the loan is four hours per time. An ID card is required. Using the wheelchair requires the help of an assistant. For the time being, we cannot guarantee that guidance on the use of the wheelchair is available at the Visitor Centre.
Students at the Satakunta University of Applied Sciences have recorded an instructional video for your reference on how to assemble the all-terrain wheelchair.
The Visitor Centre is accessible on the front side via a ramp and at the back door, which provides direct access to the toilet facilities. The outer doors have motion sensors or buttons for opening the doors. There is also an accessible toilet in the Visitor Centre. The customer service areas and the cabinet are equipped with audio induction loop systems. Guide dogs and service dogs are welcome at the Visitor Centre.
