Yyteri Visitor Centre 

In Meri-Pori in Yyteri region the visitor centre was opened in the summer of 2024. The visitor centre is both a magnificent destination and an entity for the visitors’ services.

The Yyteri Visitor Centre invites you to enjoy regardless of the weather! The services and the activities of the visitor centre are planned for the people visiting the region.

Opening Hours of the Visitor Centre: 

  • During 1.6.–16.8.2026 daily at 10–20
  • During 17.8.–30.8.2026 daily at 10–18
  • During 31.8.–11.10.2026 Sat–Sun at 10–17

The Yyteri Shop is open according to the opening hours of the Visitor Centre. We reserve the right to change opening hours.

Services

  • Buy your snacks for the beach with a takeaway principle or enjoy little refreshments at the shop premises or at the terrace area. The selection of the shop includes Pori and Yyteri merchandise, so the purchase of the souvenirs and creating memories are easy alongside enjoying the refreshments. The Yyteri Shop is generally open during the opening hours of the Visitor Centre.

    

    

  • The restrooms of the Visitor Centre are open daily free-of-charge from 06:00–21:00. Outside the opening hours you can enter the restrooms by calling the service number with a fee. The instructions on opening the door of the restrooms are at the entrance of the toilet rooms. When the Visitor Centre is closed, you enter the restrooms from the backside of the Centre.

  • The campfire place and firewood are available all year round for preparing your trip meals. The firewood can be found next to the campfire place. If at the campfire place there is no firewood, the visitor centre will help you during the opening hours.

    Please check if there are wildfire warnings in effect in the area. When a wildfire warning is in effect, making a fire is permitted only within the opening hours of the visitor centre. Making a fire during a wildfire warning is prohibited at all other times!

    

  • Outside the building there is a water tap where you can refill your water bottle during summertime. During the center`s opening hours, water can also be obtained in the lobby.

    

  • At the terrace area there are lockable compartments to store your belongings during the visit to the beach or a trip. Some of the compartments are equipped with a power outlet for charging a phone. Instructions for locking can be found on the compartment door. (Attention! Store your belongings at your own risk). 

    You can store larger items, such as suitcases, in the lobby during the center´s opening hours- not in a locked area.

    

  • Exhibition elements indoors tell a story about the unique nature of the region. 

    • The magnificent sail elements tell about the dune nature and its protection in Yyteri, the National Park of the Bothnian Sea and the recreational possibilities of the region. 
    • On the wall you will find a relief of dunes depicting the four dune types of Yyteri. 
    • The sand poles contain the real key species of Yyteri, the lyme grass. 
    • The vitrine table displays the four mussel species living in Yyteri. 
    • On the inspiration map you will find fun activities and destinations marked with symbols in the Meri-Pori region. 
    • The historical pictures on the windows display the recreational use of the region in the past. 
    • In the restrooms there are information balls describing the nature of the region by using fun facts. 
    • In the premises there is an ambient maritime sound atmosphere created by Jan Eerala to accompany your visit. 
    • At the outdoor auditorium you will find a film display about the seasons of Yyteri. Watch as the seasons and the landscape changes throughout the year! The video is created by Mediaplane. 

    The exhibition elements are designed by Intro Design in cooperation with the Ark Nature Centre, the Forest Administration of Finland, and Visit Pori. 

    

    

  • The tourist information point of Visit Pori and its personnel will advise you on independent activities in the region. Ask for hints about adventures, nature trips, services, and the destinations of the entire Pori region. 

    The other tourist information points are in the city centre of Pori: Porin Leijona (address: Yrjönkatu 6) and Satakunta museum (address: Hallituskatu 11).

  • There is dedicated parking for your furry friends on the outside walls of the Visitor Centre. Well-behaved dogs are also welcome inside the Visitor Centre. Ask the Tourist Information for tips on adventures with your dog, including details of where to find the official dog beach.

    

  • At the Visitor Centre there is a large free-of-charge parking lot. In front of the Visitor Centre there are three marked accessible parking spaces and two spaces at the end of the parking lot. In the middle of the parking lot there are 10 EV charging points of eParking.fi marked with stickers. The charging points are in the eParking system visible to the EV drivers/app users online. Charging power 11 kW, charging fee 15 cents/kWh.

  • Yyteri Visitor Centre has a Welcome Cyclist label. In the courtyard you will find bike parking with frame locking and electric bike charging. The Tourist Information Point provides information and maps of cycling routes, rental shops and services in the area, and you can borrow a bike maintenance kit. Water bottles can be filled outdoors in summer and indoors all year round. The cycling-friendly visitor centre warmly welcomes all cyclists!

  • Lost and found items left at the Visitor Centre and delivered to the Visitor Centre will be kept for 2 months. Enquiries by phone at tel. +358 247902075 during Visitor Centre opening hours.

  • The Visitor Centre has binoculars available for short-term rental during the centre’s opening hours. Rental period max. 4 hours upon presentation of ID.

Events at the Visitor Centre

  • You can enjoy the relaxed rhythms of Pori Jazz in Yyteri as well, when Trio Spice arrives to brighten the day of visitors at the Visitor Centre with their music. The energetic trio will perform in the centre’s outdoor area from 1 PM to 3 PM, and the event is free of charge.

  • On Wednesday, August 5th, from 6 PM to 8 PM, Kinokellari, the children’s culture center Kruunupää, and Visit Pori will present the classic film Back to the Future (1985, rated 12) at the Yyteri outdoor auditorium.

    Back to the Future became an unprecedented hit upon its release. The film follows Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox), who accidentally travels back to the year 1955 in a time machine built by his eccentric friend, Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd). A race against time begins as Marty tries to return home and secure his own existence by bringing his future parents together before the school dance.

    Grab your favorite movie snacks from Yyteri Shop! The outdoor screening can accommodate about 50 people. Please dress according to the weather. The outdoor auditorium is covered, and you’re welcome to bring your own seat cushion.

    After the movie, it’s worth taking a walk to enjoy Yyteri’s stunning natural scenery.

  • Let’s wrap up Yyteri Visitor Center’s summer event season together with a cheerful afternoon of fun and good vibes! The City of Pori and Yyteri Area Residents’ Association (Yyterin Alueen Asukkaat ry) are jointly organizing a cheerful community event at the Yyteri Visitor Center’s courtyard on Saturday, August 15, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

    While the flames flicker in the barbecue areas, the Resident’s Association will host fun, light-hearted activities for children and offer everyone a chance to bake traditional Finnish stick buns over the fire. You are welcome to bring your own snacks, but for those who feel hungry, grilled sausages will also be available for purchase throughout the event!

    The day will culminate at 5:00 PM, when troubadour Veikko Pukkila takes the stage and gets the audience singing along to a selection of Finnish and international classic hits. Expect songs by artists such as The Beatles, Dingo, Kirka, Eppu Normaali, Juice Leskinen, Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR), and Bon Jovi.

    The Yyteri Visitor Centre will be open throughout the event.
