When it comes to Yyteri, the word ‘paradise’ is not an exaggeration. The child-friendly shallow water is irresistible in the summer. How about the winter? While in the summer you can swim and build a sandcastle rivalling the Sagrada Família, in the wintertime you can go sledging and build a snow castle or at least a snowman. The beach is the place to be regardless of the season!
Activities for every taste
If sunbathing and staring at the sea is not enough for you, Yyteri offers a host of activities for every taste. Children are sure to enjoy the playground on the beach. Would you like to test yourself on a high rope obstacle course or have a go at abseiling? If you prefer keeping your feet on the ground, you have access to various courts and games such as volleyball, padel and tennis. Yyteri even has surprises in store for you in the winter, and hiking in nature is available all year round!
Love the lyme grass
Did you know that the Yyteri beach and dunes are protected as part of the Natura 2000 network and its objectives? The protection measures ensure the conservation of the area’s natural habitats and species. Yyteri is the largest active and continuous stretch of dunes in southern Finland. The continuously changing and evolving area is one of the most significant protected threatened dune habitats in Finland. If not for the lyme grass catching the wind-blown sand, there would be no dunes. Therefore, to protect the vulnerable dune environment, all visitors in Yyteri should be careful not to harm the lyme grass and other flora in the area. Damaged dune areas are restored by planting more lyme grass – a task in which local schoolchildren also participate.
Blue Flag – What’s that?
Yyteri is the first Finnish destination granted the Blue Flag certificate in the beach category. Blue Flag is one of the world’s most recognised eco-labels awarded to beaches, marinas and sustainable boating tourism operators. The Blue Flag scheme promotes sustainability in four areas: water quality, environmental management, environmental education and safety. Blue Flag has become a highly esteemed and recognised label that promotes both tourism and environmental protection.
Summer 2024 will see the introduction of a new impressive information facility, home to many services. The building is a sight in itself.
