Teemu Muurimäki’s bespoke fashion at Satakunta Museum – exhibition opens on Saturday 26 April

An exhibition focusing on the career and bespoke garments of fashion artist Teemu Muurimäki will open at Satakunta Museum on Saturday 26 April. The exhibition presents nearly 60 stunning unique bespoke garments and takes the visitor on a journey to the heart of Finnish high fashion. This is the first exhibition to showcase Muurimäki's work on a large scale, and it will take place in his hometown of Pori.

The exhibition celebrates Teemu Muurimäki’s 25-year career as a fashion designer. Muurimäki’s love of making clothes took him from Pori to the fashion houses of the world – he worked for Cymbeline Paris, Giorgio Armani, Dolce & Gabbana and Carla Zampatti, among others. Muurimäki returned to Finland to work as an independent designer, one of the top designers in the country. Muurimäki’s unique costumes are familiar from red carpets, stages, Linna juhlat (Castle Ball) and Eurovision stages.

The exhibition features a number of bespoke garments that have attracted attention at the top moments of Finnish formal wear and in international arenas. Costumes worn by Katri Helena, Jenni Vartiainen and Maria Ylipää are stunning examples of Muurimäki’s creations. The Linnan juhla pageantry collection includes dancer Atte Kilpinen’s eye-catching pink tailcoat, actress Krista Kosonen’s glamorous duchesse silk evening gown and singer Eini’s dupioni silk corset dress. Also on show, of course, is the Käärijä’s performance costume designed by Teemu Muurimäki, Elina Lario and Vesa Silver, which wowed the Eurovision Song Contest in spring 2023.

The exhibition also features original costume designs by Muurimäki, which have never been on public display before. The exhibition also delves into Muurimäki’s design process and the costumes he designed for the Linnan Juhlat over the last quarter of a century.

Younger visitors will be inspired by the paper dolls and costumes designed by Teemu Muurimäki, created especially for this exhibition.

– It’s impressive to see such a large collection of costumes that I have designed over 25 years. The Satakunta Museum has done an admirable job of gathering bespoke garments from all over Finland and building a diverse picture of my creative work through costumes, sketches and videos. I am really impressed. I believe that the fashion exhibition will reach its audience and serve as an inspiration to those interested in fashion and clothing, says fashion designer Teemu Muurimäki.

– Teemu Muurimäki’s exhibition continues the long tradition of the Satakunta Museum to record and highlight the history of dress and fashion – but this time we look at cultural history from a fresh perspective. Muurimäki’s unique costumes are not only visually striking objects, but they also tell the story of our times. This exhibition combines cultural history, high fashion and the story of Pori in an exceptional way,” says Timo Nordlund, indentant of the Satakunta Museum.

The exhibition will be open until 22 February 2026, and guided tours for the public will start on the opening day of the exhibition on Saturday 26 April 2025. During the summer, guided tours will also be held weekly in English. A varied programme of accompanying events will continue until February 2026.
More information on the programme will be provided separately.

The exhibition is produced by Satakunta Museum and Teemu Muurimäki.
