Construction of the year-round swimming area at Kirjurinluoto has started
The construction of a year-round bathing area at the Kirjurinluoto sauna has started. The excavation and embankment works for the bathing area are scheduled to be completed by the beginning of May, after which the beach will be cleared for the construction of the sauna. The swimming area is currently a construction site, so please exercise caution in its vicinity. The work on the bathing area, which was put out to tender by the City of Pori, will be carried out by Reittitiimi Oy.
– Prior to the construction of the bathing area, more than 700 mussels were caught and moved from the area, four of which were found to be protected fjord mussels upon further species identification. Due to the shallowness and aquatic vegetation of the site, it was expected that it would not be a natural habitat for the mussel, says Mikko Nurminen, City Architect.
Once the excavation and embankment works are completed, the management of the site will be transferred to Avanto Partners Oy.
– Construction of the sauna at Kirjurinluoto will start in early May and the plan is to get to the rafts and the open-air bathing area in November-December, says Jose Laaksonen of Avanto Partners Ltd.
