Sledding in Yyteri
Grab a sled or a snowracer and head to Yyteri to experience the joys of winter. Yyteri’s sledding hill guarantees thrilling speed. The sledding hill is located about 100 metres away from the Yyteri Visitor Centre.
Even though a snow cannon is used on the hill, warmer weather and winds blowing from the sea can affect the condition of the hill. You can check the snow situation in Yyteri from the beach’s webcam!
The valuable and fragile lyme grass protects our delicate dunes. For this reason, a hill has been designated for sledding, and sledding on other dunes is not allowed.
The City of Pori is responsible for maintaining the sledding hill. However, sledding in Yyteri is done at the sled rider’s own risk.
Why do we protect the dunes and lyme grass?
Yyteri’s dunes are a very rare and valuable nature site, and the beach is a nature conservation area. Only lyme grass can naturally bind sand, and the beautiful dunes of Yyteri have formed and grown around lyme grass. That’s why walking on the dunes and trampling the lyme grass should be avoided.
Some dunes have suffered damage, which is why they have been fenced off for protection. Lyme grass has been planted in the area, and wind fences have been put up to limit the movement of sand. Entering the fenced-off area jeopardises the success of these conservation efforts. Let’s enjoy Yyteri responsibly together.
By protecting this valuable dune area, we can ensure that future generations will also be able to enjoy it – thank you for being part of the effort!
