Swimming waters in the Pori region are mostly of good quality – minor blue-green algae observations in Harjavalta and Pori
Monthly monitoring samples were taken from swimming areas in the Pori region’s environmental health cooperation area on August 11. Based on the samples, the microbiological quality of the water is good at all swimming sites. Small amounts of blue-green algae were observed at Kultakoukku beach in Harjavalta and at Kukkulankallio beach in Ruosniemi, Pori.

If blue-green algae is detected in the water, swimming should be avoided. Children and pets should also not be allowed to play or swim in the water. Algae-contaminated water is not safe for people or animals to drink, even when boiled. It should not be used as sauna water, washing water, dish water, or for irrigating edible plants.
Environmental health authorities in the Pori region monitor the quality of bathing water in Eurajoki, Harjavalta, Nakkila, Pori, and Ulvila. There are 27 beaches in the area, four of which are official EU bathing waters. In Pori these are Yyteri and Kirjurinluoto beaches, in Eurajoki Lahdenperä beach, and in Harjavalta Kultakoukku beach.
The quality of bathing water is monitored throughout the summer with monthly water samples. The latest reports and further information on beaches can be found on the City of Pori’s website.
