Swimming season starts on Sunday – be aware of water safety
The official swimming season starts on Sunday 1 June. The safety of public bathing areas in the Pori region has now been checked and the quality of bathing water will be regularly monitored throughout the summer. Swimming supervision will be carried out on the beaches of Yyteri and Kirjurinluoto from 15 June. When swimming outdoors, special attention must be paid to your own water safety.

The City of Pori maintains several public beaches, which are equipped with changing rooms, toilets, lifebuoys and a notice board. Toilet facilities will be available at the beaches by 2 June. On the same day, the showers and changing rooms at Kirjurinluoto will open, and a container toilet has already been brought to the area in early May. To ensure the safety of swimmers, the beaches have been inspected and any deficiencies addressed.
– Since last summer, both piers at the Lavia beach have been renewed, and the piers at Noormarkku and Ahlainen have been repaired. The refurbished piers will be delivered to the beaches by Monday, 2 June. A new area marked with buoys will also be added to the Kukkulankallio beach, says Juha-Pekka Veneskivi, facility coordinator.
The quality of bathing water at public beaches is monitored regularly. Water quality monitoring is carried out by the City of Pori’s health protection department, which is also responsible for beaches in Eurajoki, Harjavalta, and Ulvila. Up-to-date water quality information is available throughout the summer.
Swimming supervision at the Yyteri and Kirjurinluoto beaches begins on 15 June and ends on 15 August. Despite lifeguard presence, swimmers themselves are primarily responsible for ensuring their own safety. Never swim under the influence of alcohol or alone, and always look out for your swimming buddy. Swimming from deep to shallow water or parallel to the shore helps prevent drifting into deep water. It’s better to underestimate than overestimate your own swimming ability.
