Villa Mairea inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List
Villa Mairea has now been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the Aalto Works series.
On 26 July, the UNESCO World Heritage Committee approved the inscription of Aalto Works on the World Heritage List during its session in Busan, South Korea. With this decision, Aalto Works becomes Finland’s eighth World Heritage Site.
Aalto Works is a serial property comprising thirteen sites designed by Alvar, Aino, and Elissa Aalto. Together, these sites represent some of the most significant achievements of Finnish modern architecture, the development of the Nordic welfare state, and a human-centered approach to design.
